Paediatric First Aid Courses

We offer 3 OfQUAL regulated Paediatric First Aid qualifications accredited by Qualsafe Awards.

Whilst both of our courses are relevant to people who work with or have children, only the Paediatric First Aid course meets fully the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The requirement from September the 1st 2016, is that all new employees entering Early Years must have as a minimum the Emergency Paediatric First Aid course in order to be included in the staff:child ratios, this requirement was formalised in the Early Years Foundation Stage 2017, published on March 3rd 2017, the Government believes that this will add an additional 15,000 trained paediatric first aiders to our nurseries and Pre-Schools every year.

Both of our courses satisfy the new requirements, If you would like to read the statement the Coalition released in 2015, please click here to be taken to the Government webpage.

Current Early Years Foundation Stage (2017) Requirements

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2017 paragraph 3.25 states:

‘At least one person who has a paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and must accompany children on outings. The certificate must be for a full course consistent with the criteria set out in Annex A.

Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of children for any period  of time, must hold a current paediatric first aid certificate.

Providers should take into account the number of children, staff, and layout of premises to ensure that a paediatric first aider is able to respond to emergencies quickly.’

Footnote 30 of the EYFS states:

‘Providers  are responsible for identifying and selecting a competent training provider to deliver their PFA training. Training is available from a wide range of providers including: those who offer regulated qualifications; or the voluntary Aid Societies (St John Ambulance, British Red Cross and St Andrew’s First Aid who together are acknowledged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) as one of the standard-setter’s for currently accepted first aid practice for first aid at work training courses); or those who operate under voluntary accreditation schemes; or one that is a member of a trade body with an approval and monitoring scheme; or those who operate independently of any such accreditation scheme.

The Training Fox  delivers Ofqual regulated qualifications accredited by Qualsafe Awards, Our courses meet the course content listed in the EYFS Annex A, which you can view here, and must be renewed every 3 years.

Providers must inform parents and/or carers of any accidents or injury sustained by the child on the same day, or as soon as reasonably practicable, of any first aid treatment given.’
